. martha: a dire warning in the fight against al qaeda. ed the deadly attack in benghazi may be just the beginning. bill: there i severe weather out west. the latest storm toppling trees and knock out power to tens of thousands. good morning, every one. we had a lot of stormy weather outwest over the weekend. even earlier last week we saw torrential rainfall across portions of oregon and washington. we saw heavy rain and strong winds. some wind gusts for over 100 miles an hour. thankfully for today we do have a bit of a quieter weather a person in store for parts of california. we do have a return to that stormy weather as we head into late tonight and into wednesday. the ground saturated. in portions of oregon, the ground saturated. that mean bad news. right now again pretty quiet over portions of california, oregon and washington. we have flash flood watches across portions of oregon and california. locally higher amount across the higher elevations. basically as we get into tuesday and wednesday. more heavy rain and snow spreading as far east as portions of the northern rockies. b

the benghazi attack that left four americans dead. in the meantime, clare mccaskill came to the ambassador's defense. >> she had reviewed the dpeor foer going. >> on sunday shows and went well beyond the talking points, we have decimated al-qaeda, that was nowhere on the talking points, said things the attack was a result of a heinous and offensive video. said the security at our consulate and strong and significant. that is not in the talking points and frankly not supported by the record of what happened. >> the talking points came from the intelligence community. you don't hear one criticism of david petraeus. it was his shop that produced the talking points that susan rice talked about. is there a double standard here? it appears there is, very unfair one. >> gregg: last week rice met with members of the senate armed services committee to try to explain the situation. lindsay graham saying that ambassador rice did not help herself very much. >> heather: supporters of mohammed morsi staging a demonstration in washington, d.c. standing in front of the egyptian embassy armed with signs. o

benghazi attack in libya. following a concussion she sustained last week. the state department says clinton passed out and hit her head after being dehydrated from a stomach virus. she was expected to testify this thursday before congressional committees investigating to the deadly benghazi attacks on four americans. the house chairwoman made it clear she plans to ask women to testify at a different time. john kerry appears to be the next nominee to become the u.s. secretary of state. reportedly president obama will announce his nomination in the coming weeks. word of kerry's selection comes days after the previous front runner u.n. ambassador susan rice withdrew her name from consideration. if the nomination is confirmed by the senate, the 69-year-old would replace hillary clinton who plans to step down soon. >>> voters are heading to the polys to find out who will be the country's seventh prime minister in six years. the member is likely to be the next prime minister. tsunami politics likely to play a role in this nomination. >>> people in fiji are bracing themselves for cyclone e van. th

up for all americans. >> yeah. let me talk to you both about benghazi. an independent review found failures in leadership and management at the state department in terms of the attacks on benghazi and how it was handled and everything that followed as a result. do you think this will tarnish hillary clinton's reputation at all as she leaves the administration, maria? >> i don't think that it will, randi. you know, the secretary herself is the first one to say that the buck stops with her. she has taken full responsibility for this. the state department with her at the head of it has accepted all 29 recommendations that came out of this report. she understands that there have been failures and that things need to change. and she has been the first to say that. she is going to testify next month about this. she is never one to either go back on her responsibility or to shy away if responsibility and make sure that from here on in those recommendations are accepted and that we do everything that we can to make sure that this does not happen again. so i don't think this will tarnish he

gives a scathing assessment of the state department's failure to protect the u.s. consulate in benghazi. watch what ranking member of the committee susan collins had to say. >> the terrorists essentially walked into the compound, virtually unimpeded, and set it ablaze due to extremely poor security, in a threat environment that the undersecretary of state, patrick kennedy himself, has conceded was flashing red. >> the committee also found the department relied too heavily on libyan security guards who were known to be unreliable. this report comes after a similar scathing assessment by an independent state department board which led to top security official and three others at the department stepping down. >> and a charter bus crashed in northern oregon killed nine people and injured least 26 more. the bus skidded on ice, crashed through a guardrail and tumbled several hundred feet down a steep e steep embankment. the driver hasn't spoken to authorities. he was severely injured in the crash. >>> the body of newtown school gunman adam lanza has been claimed by his father. connecticut's c

happened in benghazi. why were requests for security turned down in this dangerous situation? but that's not a political conspiracy. that's one of the things that happen in life. >> all right, so what is interesting about this, peter, is that obviously the white house is saying al qaeda is on the run. al qaeda doesn't really sort of exist except in these small pop-up groups. then, so that's kind of the heart of the issue, which is you can't say al qaeda doesn't exist and all of a sudden have an attack by al qaeda. but are you suggesting that the intelligence community did not brief the ambassador deliberately in order to continue working their sources, their intelligence? >> the intelligence community, according to reports of how they brief the intelligence committees about this matter, took out from the unclassified talking points that susan rice used, references to a particular group called ansar al sharia. it's not links to al qaeda, more inspired by al qaeda in libya. they took the talking points out because they didn't want to tip this group off that they were basically looking at
